Healthmail Sent / Read (by Pt) indicator to be added to EMR Virtual Chart Encounter Record

Currently when a HealthMail (Secure email) is sent to a patient from a provider it adds a Healthmail (Type) encounter record into the PT's EMR virtual chart.  The concern is that as soon as the email is sent the encounter record is tagged within the Reviewed field as Yes.   This is whether the patient has read the email or not.  

The provider is able to go into their health mail and review open and closed messages and see the status change from ‘Sent’ to ‘Read’ so that is a step in the right direction.

what we would like to see is how you get that information into the patient record either by updating the ‘HealthMail' encounter record ‘Reviewed’ column rather than it automatically saying Yes to properly saying ‘Sent’ or ‘Read’.   Or from within the HealthMail to be able to add that ‘Read’ email response as a new encounter record within the Pt file.

 

The reason this is a concern is that providers need to know that the patient has received the email that was sent to them.   i.e.. as an example if the provider is sending instructions to change their medication....
